Eberbach Monastery Foundation

Project
Since the beginning of 2022, the offices of Eberbach Monastery have been the first cultural monument of European standing to be intelligently heated. In a building constructed in 1752 in the former Cistercian abbey (founded in 1136 by Bernard of Clairvaux), the self-learning thermostats from vilisto adapt the heating behavior fully automatically to the actual room usage. The main objectives of the foundation’s work The preservation and development of the historic building fabric is one of the most important factors in the preservation of historic buildings – vilisto is therefore the ideal measure for increasing energy efficiency, as the integration of digital heat management does not require any structural changes.
Despite the thick walls, the wireless connection between the thermostats and the gateways works perfectly. These transmit the heating data to the online platform, where the maximum temperature is limited to 24 degrees in order to further reduce consumption. Thanks to weather data from the Internet and the learned usage behavior, the office rooms are preheated in good time, so that without any loss of comfort 30.4% heating costs, CO2 emissions and energy savings is saved.
*Forecast values based on weather-adjusted heat metering in accordance with VDI 3807 & 4710 under constant framework conditions.
