Hamburg Archaeological Museum

Project
In its almost 120-year history, the Archaeological Museum Hamburg has developed from a historical museum for the city of Harburg into the Archaeological State Museum of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The cultural site is used in a variety of ways: In addition to the “classic” office operations in the administration, there are exhibition areas, a restaurant and an adjoining theater.
The museum recognized the many opportunities offered by digitalization early on. For more than 20 years, it has been consistently developing its digital offerings. On January 1, 2020, the self-learning thermostats from vilisto were installed in the administration and exhibition areas as well as the stage of the theater and the adjoining social rooms – with the aim of adjusting the heat consumption as precisely as possible to the actual requirements of the various uses.
Since then, the foundation under public law has saved around 30% heating energy and CO2 emissions in the areas heated by radiators. The project is also a complete economic success with an amortization period of 3 years. In addition, the additional burden of the CO2 tax will be reduced by around €7,500 by the end of 2030.
